Feldenkrais with Alan

We would like to invite you to this all inclusive, 6 night stay in a stunning 14th century coach house, nestled into the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. The overwhelming response from the 2023 participants has inspired us to bring it back, longer and better than ever.
Join us from Saturday 7th to Friday 13th of September at Domaine de Mournac for an amazing week.

Last year’s event was a fantastic opportunity for learning, sharing and fun, and this year promises to be even more exciting.
Here are some highlights of what you can expect at our second edition:

  • Explore the Feldenkrais Method with a series of clearly crafted “Awareness through Movement” lessons, delivered by our fantastic teacher, Alan Butler. Connect on a deep level to your moving anatomy, experiencing your own musculo-skeletal landscape and its potential to be re-invigorated to a higher potential to experience and navigate your environment with more ease.
  • Meet people: the individuals you will meet are the biggest part of this experience. The participants all bring an incredible and diverse set of personalities, backgrounds, questions, perspectives… Put together, it creates the kind of magic that makes for an unforgetable experience.
  • 4 full days of learning: the lessons tie directly into the functional movements of daily life, such as walking efficiently and improving one’s posture in sitting or standing. These skills will transfer directly into literally whatever you do in your day to day experience.
  • Adventures and rest: mid week, on Tuesday, after a light morning lesson, you will have the opportunity to have a day break: enjoy the amazing venue, its swimming pool, or come with us to discover some of the natural and historical wonders of the area.

These days of learning are open to and will benefit everyone regardless of age, background or profession, no previous experience needed.

Upon arrival you will have the afternoon to settle in and meet your fellow retreat participants, then enjoy getting to know each other whilst tasting the very best the region has to offer during dinner prepared by our talented and creative chef. Over the course of the week, all your meals will be taken care of so that you can immerse yourself fully into the experience.

We can’t wait to see you there! To secure your spot, please register by using the Booking section below. Don’t miss out on
this incredible opportunity to connect, learn, laugh and grow together! We look forward to seeing you there!

Moshe Feldenkrais (Doctor of Science, Sorbonne) was an engineer, physicist, inventor, martial artist and student of human development who undertook a life long exploration of the relationship between movement and consciousness. The breadth, vitality and precision of Dr. Feldenkrais’ work has seen it applied in diverse fields including neurology, psychology, performing arts, sports and rehabilitation.

Alan has been involved in martial arts since 1985 before joining the Bujinkan system in 1987 and regularly trains in Japan with Masaaki Hatsumi Soke and his senior Japanese teachers. Alan currently teaches classes at his own dojo in Galway holding the rank of Jugodan (15th Dan).
In 1998 Alan started training in the Amatsu physical medicine system under the tutelage of William Doolan and to this day runs a busy clinic in Galway. Many years ago whilst in Japan and through chance conversation Alan was introduced to the principles of the Feldenkrais Method and on returning to Ireland sought out some teachers of Awareness through Movement lessons before deciding to embark on a five year immersive study with Garet Newell (a direct student of Moshe Feldenkrais) earning a full diploma in Awareness through Movement and Functional Integration, teaching weekly public classes as well as seeing private clients.

You will be welcomed with dinner upon your arrival, and thereafter, enjoy 3 meals per day, and a final breakfast together before morning check out. All meals are included in the price and prepared using seasonal & local produce. Teas, Coffee & a daily fruit bowl is also provided during the day for the occasional snacks.

All facilities and bedrooms are in the main building, which also has two living rooms and a big kitchen – so should (against all odds) there be a rainy day, there is enough room for everybody to get comfortable and find a cozy spot inside – maybe even with live piano music by the fire place.

The venue provides shared accomodation with 2 or 3 beds in each room and with each having its own en-suite-bathroom. Bed linen and towels are provided (also for the pool), as well as shampoo, conditioner and soap.

The complete package includes accommodation, all meals and course fees.

Domaine De Mournac is 45 minutes from Carcassonne airport and 1.5 hours from Toulouse airport.

Domaine de Mournac is a coach-house from the 14th century, surrounded by forest and vineyards in the beautiful Aude county, just South of Carcassonne, very close to the Pyrenees mountains. It benefits from glorious sunshine most of the time, but still with green and lush vegetation.

You can walk amongst the woodlands in the domaine, or walk up through the vineyards surrounding the property. A trek to the top of nearby Mont Sec is a must! You will find that there is plenty to see and do in the local area, whether its exploring the many Cathar castles, or hiking up mountains.

“The Feldenkrais retreat was a wonderful experience. Each lesson was given by Alan in a calm, informative and encouraging manner. Added to this was the stunning venue, the delicious food created by the chef and the fellow participants. The facilitators outdid themselves. Their approach to everything was precise, considerate and very thoughtful.”
